What’s so mesmerising about acrobatics
In life, there are many things that can make us gasp with disbelief. From 3D explosions on the big screen, to rocket ships blasting off to the Moon, we as humans have experienced many “wow” moments.
But did you know that acrobatics is also totally and utterly mesmerising? The extraordinary feats that human beings can achieve with their own bodies can often make us gasp with disbelief, just as much as the sight of a rocket ship launching from NASA. In fact, they can often make us gasp with more disbelief.
So let’s take a look at just what is so mesmerising about acrobatics. Just try not to faint!
They’re Humans Just Like You
Okay, so a rocket ship can propel itself to outer space, and a Porsche Spyder can get from rest to 100kph in just over 3 seconds. These are extraordinary things, but acrobatics are often more amazing by virtue of the fact that the athletes are using their own bodies to achieve extraordinary things.
From literally flying in mid-air, to bending their bodies in such a way that their toes touch their foreheads, acrobats do the kinds of things that witches would have been hanged for a few hundred years ago.
Acrobats Can Walk On High Wires With A Step Ladder
One of the mesmerising things about acrobatics is that acrobats can literally achieve the impossible. One of the most daring and yet most popular moves in their repertoire, is the ability to walk across a high wire ON A STEP LADDER.
Not just this, but the acrobat often does it upside down. With absolutely no regard for their own safety, the acrobat will somehow trundle along a super-narrow high wire and make it to the other side alive, and ready to do it all again.
Sometimes they even do it outside with a pile of concrete below. Wow.

Acrobatics Is A Lesson In Balance
Think you’ve got perfect balance because you can carry two grocery bags under each arm? Think again. Acrobatics is a lesson in human balance and discipline. With more poise than a Minoan vase, acrobats are able to do the kinds of things on their tiptoes that the rest of us mortals can’t even do in our dreams.
Acrobatics Is At Least 4,000 Years Old
One of the mesmerising things about acrobatics is that it dates back to at least 2,000 BC, when an acrobat contorting on the back of a bull was depicted on a Minoan vase. This essentially means that humans have always had a thirst to push their bodies to the limits, and it’s a testament to our love affair with acrobatics, that we continue to gasp and lose our breath whenever we see an acrobat do something mesmerising with their bodies.
Acrobatics Is Pretty Much Superhuman
Whether they’re juggling with sticks of fire, or leaping from one skyscraper to another, acrobats defy limitations and are essentially real-life Supermen and Superwomen. They appear to defy gravity and death day-in day-out, so much so that we have to wonder whether they are actually immortal.
The truth is that acrobatics will never get old. When we watch someone do things with their bodies that we wouldn’t ever dream of doing with ours, we’re amazing, curious and excited. Nothing quite beats walking across a high wire on a step ladder.
